Amlodipine tablet is a calcium channel blocker that is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). If you are suffering from hypertension, consuming amlodipine can help prevent heart disease, attacks, and strokes. It is also used to prevent angina (chest pain caused by heart disease). Amlodipine tablets relax your blood vessels so that blood can easily flow and your heart functions well.

Dosage 

• Amlodipine can be given to children, adults, and old age people. Your health specialist should determine its dosage and duration depending on your age and condition.
• For children- 2.5 to 5 mg orally once a day.
• For adults- 5 to 10 mg orally once a day.
• For old age people- 2.5 to 10 mg orally once a day.

Amlodipine Side Effects 

This medication can cause some serious side effects. Some of them are mentioned below.

• Amlodipine can cause Ankle Swelling.
• Swelling is caused by excess fluid trapped in the body’s tissues, usually seen in feet, ankles, and legs called Oedema. 
• You can have a strong desire for sleep and a feeling of drowsiness known as Somnolence.
• Amlodipine can cause an altered sense of balance, possibly described as light-headed, feeling faint, or as if the head is spinning called Dizziness.
• It can cause headaches. 
• It can lead to a racing and pounding sensation of the heart, often bothersome called Palpitations.
• Your face becomes red because of illness or because of strong emotions such as embarrassment or anger.
• Amlodipine can cause abdominal Pain.
• It can Nausea.
• Fatigue can also be seen while taking this medication. 

Precautions Of Amlodipine Tablet

• Consult your doctor if you have congestive heart failure or liver disease before taking amlodipine besylate.
• Consumption of alcohol can further lower blood pressure and may enhance various side effects.
• Keep using amlodipine even if you feel well if you are being treated for high blood pressure. High blood pressure may have no symptoms. You may need to use this medication for your whole life.
• Amlodipine may also include diet, exercise, weight control, and other medications as it is only part of a complete program of treatment. You have to continue your diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely.
• Consult your health specialist if you are consuming any other heart or blood pressure medications.
• When you start consuming amlodipine or when its dose increases your chest pain may become worse. Tell your health specialist if your chest pain is severe or ongoing.
